Douglas León, a rapper from Botkyrka Municipality with Latin American roots, fronted The Latin Kings, a group active from the early 1990s, alongside the brothers and DJs Cristian Salazar Campos and Hugo Salazar Campos. The group broke through with the 1994 debut Välkommen till förorten, whose first single was “Snubben” and which was one of the first hip hop albums released in Swedish. Subsequent releases included I skuggan av betongen (1997), which went platinum, Mitt kvarter (2000), which went gold, and Omertà (2003). In the mid-1990s they founded Redline Records, signing Swedish hip-hop acts such as Fattaru and Kalle Kath. The group issued the compilation Familia Royal in 2005, and Doggelito confirmed in 2007 that it had disbanded, leaving a legacy as one of the first acts to rap in Swedish and to give voice to Stockholm’s immigrant suburbs.
