Mentallo & The Fixer, an American electro-industrial project formed by Gary Dassing and Dwayne Dassing, was formed in 1988. Initially experimenting with traditional rock music instruments, they transitioned to synthesizers and samplers. Their first band, Benestrophe, dissolved due to competing obligations, leading Gary Dassing to produce demo tapes that caught the attention of a fanzine named Technology Works. This exposure led to the formation of Mentallo & The Fixer, named after comic book characters. Their debut album, No Rest for the Wicked, was released in 1992 on Simbiose Records and gained attention from Talla 2XLC of Zoth Ommog Records, who released their next two major albums, Revelations 23 and Where Angels Fear to Tread. After the duo decided to split in 1999, Gary Dassing continued under the same name, releasing several notable albums including Algorythum (1999), Love Is the Law (2000), and Return to Grimpen Ward (2001).
