Guðmundur Magni Ásgeirsson, known professionally as Magni Ásgeirsson, was born on December 1, 1978, in Egilsstaðir, Iceland. He began his musical journey at an early age, forming a band with friends and cousins by the time he was 11 years old. As a teenager, he honed his skills using the facilities at Menntaskólin á Egilsstöðum. His breakthrough came when he joined the band SHAPE in 1998, releasing an EP. In 1999, he moved to Reykjavík to become the lead singer for Á Móti Sól, one of Iceland's biggest pop bands. With Á Móti Sól, he produced eight albums and toured extensively across Europe. Notable performances include shows at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. In 2006, he gained international recognition as a contestant on Rock Star: Supernova, finishing fourth. He continued to perform with Á Móti Sól and released his solo album Magni in 2007.
