Harvey Milk, an American experimental rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, originated in 1992. The trio consisted of Creston Spiers on vocals and guitar, Stephen Tanner on bass and guitar, and Paul Trudeau on drums. They named themselves after Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician elected in a major U.S. city. Their debut album, My Love Is Higher Than Your Assessment Of What My Love Could Be, was released in 1994. The band performed various covers, including Hank Williams material and R.E.M.'s Reckoning album during an April Fool's Day gig at the 40 Watt in Athens. Following Trudeau's departure in 1996, Harvey Milk disbanded in 1998 but reformed in 2006 with Kyle Spence on drums. Their album Special Wishes, released in 2006, marked their return to the music scene. In 2008, they toured extensively across the United States and Europe, releasing Life... The Best Game in Town, which was voted as the best album of 2008 by Rock-A-Rolla magazine. In 2010, Harvey Milk issued the album A Small Turn of Human Kindness via Hydrahead.
