Horde is the Australian unblack metal solo project of Jayson Sherlock. Originally called Beheadoth, the project released its only studio album, Hellig Usvart, in 1994 through Nuclear Blast under Sherlock’s pseudonym, “Anonymous.” The album became a landmark release in unblack metal, combining fast, dark black metal with high-pitched vocals and explicitly Christian themes. The album satirized the satanic imagery of traditional black metal while presenting a message centered on rejecting Satan and praising God. Despite its controversial release and death threats surrounding Sherlock’s anonymity, the album gained a lasting reputation and influenced later Christian black metal bands. It was reissued several times, including anniversary editions in 2004, 2008, 2018, and 2019. They later performed live with a session lineup, including appearances at Nordic Fest in Norway in 2006 and Immortal Metal Fest in Finland in 2010.
