A symphonic rock band inspired by fantasy, science fiction, history, and Greek mythology, Sound Horizon formed in 2001 in Tokyo, Japan. Originally a one-man band consisting of composer and multi-instrumentalist Revo, Sound Horizon expanded its lineup following the release of the band's 2001 debut, Chronicle. Female vocalist Aramary joined the group in time for 2002's Thanatos, with male vocalist Jimang climbing aboard that same year for the follow-up album Lost. Sound Horizon's lineup ballooned over the course of the decade, with the band transforming itself into a large collective of singers and classically-influenced rock instrumentalists. The group's popularity also grew, earning Sound Horizon a major-label deal with King Records. The first of those major-label albums, 2006's Roman, peaked at Number 19 in Japan, while 2008's Moira, 2010's Märchen, 2012's Chronology [2005-2010], and 2015's Nein all charted within the Top 4. Sound Horizon enjoyed a run of popular singles on Japan's Oricon chart, too, including 2010's Number 2 smash "Ido e Itaru Mori e Itaru Ido," 2013's Number 3 hit "Halloween to Yoru no Monogatari," and 2014's Number 3 hit "Vanishing Starlight." While the 2020 single "Utsukushiki Existence" marked a new decade for Sound Horizon, Revo also devoted time to an equally-popular side project, Linked Horizon, whose successful releases included the platinum-selling single "Jiyū e no Shingeki" and the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart-topper "Guren no Yumiya."
