Rootz Underground is a Jamaican reggae band formed in 2000, consisting of singer Stephen Newland, lead guitarist Charles Lazarus, rhythm guitarist Jeffrey Moss-Solomon, bassist Colin Young, keyboardist Paul Smith, and drummer Leon Campbell. The group initially gained traction through live performances in Kingston between 2000 and 2005, participating in notable festivals such as Reggae Sumfest and Welcome to Jamrock. Their debut album, Movement, released in 2008, featured 15 tracks including “Victims of the System” and “In My Hut”. Following the release, the band supported Danakil on tour, playing as the opening act at the Olympia in Paris on October 6, 2009, and at the Zénith in Paris on March 18, 2011. In 2010, the band released their second album, Gravity, and toured Europe, including a performance at the Sumerjam festival in Cologne, Germany. Their third studio album, Return of the Righteous, was made available on the group's website on October 9, 2014, and received a physical release in the spring of 2015.
