Wipers was an American punk rock band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Greg Sage. The band debuted with the single "Better Off Dead" (1978), showcasing a basic rock sound influenced by punk with an emotional charge. Their debut studio album, Is This Real?, was released in 1980 on Park Avenue Records, followed by the EP Alien Boy (1980). Wipers subsequently released several studio albums, including Youth of America (1981), Over the Edge (1983), Land of the Lost (1986), Follow Blind (1987), The Circle (1988), and Power in One (1999). The group's music heavily influenced the grunge movement, with Nirvana covering the songs "Return of the Rat" and "D7", and its influence also extended to artists such as Hole. Notable compilations include The Best of Wipers and Greg Sage (1990), Complete Rarities '78–'90 (1993), and Wipers Box Set (2001).
