Jim Radford is an English folk singer who was projected into the public eye following two televised appearances at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2014 when Radford sang 'The Shores of Normandy' as part of a 70th commemoration of the Normandy landings in 1944.
Radford's moving rendition of his song had a particular poignancy as he himself was a D-Day veteran and was the youngest known participant in the operation when he served as a fifteen-year-old galley boy on one of the tugs involved in the invasion.
Radford's experiences in the war (which include losing one of his brothers who was killed whilst serving in the Merchant Navy) have made him a lifelong peace campaigner and activist. He has been a well-known and popular performer at maritime events and folk festivals around the UK with an extensive repertoire of sea-songs and traditional shanties.
After 'The Shores of Normandy' was released as single in May 2019 to help raise funds for the Nomandy Memorial Trust the track topped the Amazon and iTunes download chart during the first week in June.
