The Baptist Generals are an American indie rock band from Denton, Texas. Formed in 1998 by singer-songwriter Chris "Cee" Flemmons and drummer Steve Hill, the group initially gained traction with their album Dog, released on Quality Park Records in 2000. Their early performances included street acts on Denton's Fry Street before transitioning to house shows and club gigs nationally and abroad. The band's lineup evolved over time, incorporating various musicians from Denton. In 2002, they released the album No Silver/No Gold. Hill left the band in 2007, after which The Baptist Generals shifted to acoustic sets in alternative spaces. They returned to electrified performances in 2012 as part of the 35 Denton festival, founded by Flemmons. Their third full-length album, Jackleg Devotional To The Heart, was released on Sub Pop Records in May 2013.
