Gustav Kuhn is an Austrian conductor and director born on August 28, 1945, in Turrach. He achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by his leadership of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl and for founding the Accademia di Montegral. Kuhn achieved professional recognition for a career that began after he received violin and piano instruction and studied conducting at the music academies of Vienna and Salzburg under the musician Hans Swarowsky and the musician Herbert von Karajan. He achieved professional recognition for winning the first prize at the international conducting competition organized by the ORF in 1970 and receiving the Lilli-Lehmann-Medaille from the Universität Mozarteum. He achieved professional recognition for serving as a conductor at the Istanbul Opera House and First Kapellmeister at the Dortmund Opera House between 1970 and 1977. Kuhn achieved professional recognition for serving as the general music director in Bern from 1979 to 1983 and being appointed chief conductor of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in 1986. He achieved professional recognition for founding the Accademia di Montegral in 1987 and establishing the Tiroler Festspiele Erl in 1997. His recording career included recordings for the label Sony/BMG, the label EMI, and the label CBS. Kuhn achieved professional recognition for serving as the artistic director of the Haydn-Orchester between 2003 and 2012.
