Þursaflokkurinn, an Icelandic progressive rock band, was formed in Reykjavík in 1978, consisting of Egill Ólafsson on vocals, keyboard, and acoustic guitar; Þórður Arnason on guitar; Rúnar Vilbergsson on fagott; Tómas Tómasson on bass; and Ásgeir Óskarsson on drums. Their debut album, Hinn íslenzki Þursaflokkur (1978), showcased traditional Icelandic folk songs with rock and progressive elements. The band's second album, Þursabit (1979), introduced keyboardist Karl Sighvatsson and highlighted keyboards and Hammond organ. In 1982, their fourth album, Gæti eins verið..., shifted towards pop, new wave, and rock music with increased use of synthesizers. The band played its last concert in 1984 but reunited periodically for performances and released Ókomin forneskjan in 2008.
