Daphne and Celeste is an American pop duo composed of Celeste Cruz and Karen DiConcetto, which originated in New Jersey, United States, in 1999. Their early background involved auditioning in New York in 1998, after which they were assembled by a management company and signed to MCA. The duo’s breakthrough came with the single “Ooh Stick You” (1999), which reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and was followed by “U.G.L.Y.” (2000) and a cover of “School's Out” (2000). Their debut album We Didn't Say That! was released on 26 June 2000 to mixed reviews, with Melody Maker awarding it four out of five stars. Subsequent releases include the single “You and I Alone” (2015), produced by Max Tundra, and the single “BB” (2018), which preceded the album Daphne & Celeste Save the World released on 30 March 2018. The duo toured the UK, including a 2005 mini-reunion with Lolly, and performed at Reading and Leeds in 2000, where they faced a hostile audience. After being dropped by their label in 2001, they disbanded but reunited for a comeback produced by Max Tundra, which they promoted at London’s Boston Music Room.
