Brian Timothy Finn, born 25 June 1952 in Waikato, New Zealand, is a Kiwi singer-songwriter and composer. Finn commenced a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Auckland in 1971. He co-founded the pop‑new‑wave band Split Enz with Phil Judd; the duo served as co‑lead singers and co‑songwriters, producing tracks such as "I See Red", "Dirty Creature" and "Six Months in a Leaky Boat". Finn released his debut solo album Escapade in 1983, which reached the top charts in Australia and New Zealand and spawned the hits "Fraction Too Much Friction" and "Made My Day". After leaving Split Enz in 1984, he released Big Canoe (1986), and his self-titled album in 1988, with the single "Parihaka". In 1989, he joined his brother Neil Finn’s band Crowded House for the Woodface era, co‑writing "Four Seasons in One Day" and "Weather with You". The Finn brothers reunited under the name Finn Brothers, issuing their eponymous album in 1995 and Everyone Is Here in 2004. Finn’s later work includes the live album Together in Concert: Live (2000), the opera Star Navigator (2015), and the collaborative Caught by the Heart with Phil Manzanera (2021).
