Knut was a Swiss rock ensemble from Geneva established in 1994. The group consisted of the musicians Jerome Doudet, Roderic Mounir, Tim Robert-Charrue, Didier Séverin, and Christian Valleise. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by mathcore, sludge metal, and hardcore. Their recording career began with the single “Knut” (1994) and a split recording with the ensemble Ishma in 1996. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the extended play Leftovers (1997) and the studio recording Bastardiser (1998). They achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Challenger (2002) which was designated the 17th best extreme album of the year by the magazine Terrorizer. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for signing with the label Hydra Head Records and performing as an opening act for the ensemble Isis. Their discography included the studio recording Terraformer (2005), the studio recording Alter (2006), and the studio recording Wonder (2010). The group became inactive in January 2012. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the song “Merciless” (2014) featured on a tribute album to the ensemble Godflesh. Séverin died on March 23 2022.
