The 29th Street Saxophone Quartet is an American saxophone quartet formed in 1982. The group originated from a meeting between baritone saxophonist Jim Hartog and alto saxophonist Ed Jackson at the New England Conservatory. The name of the ensemble comes from the street where Hartog lived, which served as the location for their initial rehearsals. In 1982, tenor saxophonist Rich Rothenberg joined the group, followed by alto saxophonist Bobby Watson just before their first European tour. The quartet released several albums including Pointillistic Groove (1984), Watch Your Step (1985), and The Real Deal (1987).
