Verbow was an American alternative rock ensemble from Chicago active between the mid-1990s and early 2000s. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by the unconventional use of the cello and emotionally direct songwriting. The ensemble originated from a collaboration between the musician Jason Narducy and the musician Alison Chesley under the name Jason & Alison. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Woodshed (1994) released on the label Whitehouse Records. Verbow achieved professional recognition for being profiled in the magazine Billboard and performing as a support act for the musician Bob Mould and the ensemble Live. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for changing their name from Skinny and signing with the label Epic Records in 1997. Their discography included the studio recording Chronicles (1997) and the studio recording White Out (2000) featuring the single “New History”. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for having the single remixed by the musician Chris Lord-Alge. Verbow became inactive in early 2003 following the departure of Chesley in 2001. They achieved professional recognition for performing a reunion show in 2010 and releasing the compilation recording Live at Schubas (2010).
