Lift is a German art rock ensemble from Dresden established in 1973. The group emerged from the Dresden-Septett and performed its first concert on January 28, 1973, initially playing blues, soul, and gospel. The founding members included bassist Gerhard Zachar, drummer Konrad Burkert, guitarist Jürgen Heinrich, musician Till Patzer, trombonist Manfred Nytsch, keyboardist Wolfgang Scheffler, trumpeter Karl-Matthias Pflugbeil, vocalist Bernd Schlund, and vocalist Christiane Ufholz. Vocalist Stephan Trepte joined in 1973 and drummer and lead vocalist Werther Lohse joined in 1974. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Lift (1977) released on the label Amiga. The ensemble released the studio recording Meeresfahrt (1979) which featured the hit single "Nach Süden" and the single "Tagesreise". In November 1978, Henry Pacholski and Zachar died in a car accident while on tour in Poland. Lohse returned to the group in 1979 following a year with Stern-Combo Meißen. Their discography included the studio recording Spiegelbild (1981) and the studio recording Nach Hause (1987). After the Wende, the ensemble collaborated with the ensembles electra and Stern-Combo Meißen for live performances as Sachsendreier.
