Jeff Schultz, known professionally as Jeff Rains, is the founder and leader of the American rock band Rains, which formed in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 2000. Under the band's name, Schultz performed as a singer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist. They released their debut studio album, Stories, in 2009. The release was preceded by the singles "Liar" and "Look in My Eyes". The track "Liar" became a top 15 hit on SiriusXM Octane, while "Look in My Eyes" reached number 3, and the single "Pressure", released in 2012, peaked at Number 1 on the same platform. The album garnered over 20 million streams on Spotify. They also released the studio album From the Ashes in 2014. After completing eight years of constant touring with bands such as Five Finger Death Punch and Black Stone Cherry, Schultz took time off to focus on his daughter and his tattoo business. In 2018, Schultz was arrested on drug possession charges and his tattoo shop was raided for operating without a license. Schultz returned to music in 2019 and recorded the release N.F.D.M at the House of Blues Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. From this release, they issued the single "Ghost" in 2019, followed by the single "The Chain" in 2021.
