Anton Karl Karas, also known as Anton Karas, was born on July 7, 1906, in Vienna, Austria, and was a zither player and composer. His musical talent was evident from an early age, but financial constraints led him to pursue an apprenticeship as a toolmaker while continuing his music education. In the late 1920s, he began performing with Adolf Schneer in local wine taverns. His breakthrough came in 1948 when English filmmaker Carol Reed discovered him and commissioned him to compose the score for The Third Man. The resulting Harry Lime Theme became an international sensation. He passed away on January 10, 1985.
