Ashes Divide, stylized as ASHES dIVIDE, is an American alternative rock project formed by musician Billy Howerdel, a founding member and guitarist of A Perfect Circle. Howerdel began working on solo material in 2003 during the writing sessions for the album Thirteenth Step, eventually forming the project after A Perfect Circle went on hiatus. The debut single, “The Stone”, was released on January 22, 2008. The project's debut album, Keep Telling Myself It's Alright, followed on April 8, 2008, featuring contributions from session drummer Josh Freese, alongside Johnette Napolitano, Matt Skiba, and Paz Lenchantin. The album debuted at number 36 in the United States, selling 15,800 copies in its first week. The project toured extensively in 2008. Howerdel also composed the soundtrack for the video game Jak X: Combat Racing (2005) and later released the studio album What Normal Was (2022) under his own name.
