Tellu Turkka, born in Koskenpää, Finland, in 1969, is a Finnish fiddler and singer in the contemporary folk and neo-folk genres. Turkka studied violin at the Jyväskylä Conservatory, Savonlinna Art College, and the Folk Music Department of the Sibelius Academy, and studied Hardanger fiddle in Norway under Ånon Egeland. She achieved prominence as a member of the Swedish neo-folk group Hedningarna, recording the albums Kaksi in 1992 and Trä in 1994, which inspired her interest in ancient Finnish runo-songs from the Kalevala. As a solo artist, Turkka released her children's album, Pähkinänsydän, in 1999. Her collaborative recordings included the album Mateli with Liisa Matveinen in 1999 and Piniartut with the ensemble Piniartut in 2001, which she also produced. Turkka also recorded albums with Tallari and performed with the group Suden Aika on their albums Suden Aika in 1996, Etsijä in 2004, and Unta in 2006. In 1999, she appeared in the Guthrie Theatre musical production Kalevala: Dream of the Salmon Maiden.
