Thee Hypnotics, an English psychedelic garage rock band, were formed in 1985 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The original lineup included frontman James "Jim" Jones and guitarist Ray Hanson. Their first single "Love in a Different Vein" was released in 1988 on Vinyl Solution. They signed to Situation Two, a subsidiary of Beggars Banquet, and scored an independent chart hit with the 12" single "Justice In Freedom" in 1989. Thee Hypnotics' live album Live'r Than God (1989) elevated them out of the UK club scene. Their first studio album, Come Down Heavy, was released in 1990 and featured guest appearances from Phil May and Dick Taylor of the Pretty Things. It entered at number 2 in the UK Indie Chart. The band toured extensively with notable acts such as Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The band disbanded in 1999, but reformed in January 2018.
