Main

Main, a British ambient band, was formed in 1991 by guitarists Robert Hampson and Scott Dowson, both formerly of the English rock band Loop. The duo's initial releases included singles such as "Hydra" (1991) and EPs like Calm (1992) and Dry Stone Feed (1993). Their debut album, Firmament, was released in 1993.  Dowson left the group in 1996, and Hampson continued with various releases including Firmament IV (1998) and Tau (2002). In 2006, Hampson announced Main's effective disbandment to focus on his solo work. However, in 2010, he reactivated the project as a collaborative effort with other sound artists, including German composer Stephan Mathieu, releasing Ablation in 2013 through the Austrian label Editions Mego.
