Chavez is an American independent rock and math rock band from New York, formed in 1993 from the ashes of the band Wider. Led by guitarist Matt Sweeney, the lineup also included drummer James Lo, guitarist Clay Tarver, and bassist Scott Marshall. The group established a following in the underground music scene with their debut single, “Repeat the Ending”. Their debut album, Gone Glimmering, was released in 1995, followed by the EP Pentagram Ring later that year. In 1996, the band released their second album, Ride the Fader. During a period of inactivity between 1999 and 2006, Sweeney formed the band Zwan in 2001 with Billy Corgan and David Pajo, while Tarver wrote the screenplay for the film Joy Ride. The band resumed activity in 2006, performing concerts and releasing the compilation album Better Days Will Haunt You on Matador Records.
