Ronald James Hawkins, born November 29, 1964, in Toronto, Ontario, is a Canadian singer and musician best known for fronting The Lowest of the Low. In the early 1990s, the band gained attention with independent releases Shakespeare My Butt (1991) and Hallucigenia (1994), the former voted one of the Top 10 Canadian Albums of all time by Chart magazine. After disbanding in 1994, Hawkins released a first solo album, The Secret of My Excess (1996). Hawkins later fronted Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails, releasing Greasing the Star Machine (1998). The Lowest of the Low reunited in 2000 for a tour and live album, Nothing Short of a Bullet (2001), before splitting again in 2007. They performed sporadic shows afterwards. Hawkins continued a solo career with albums like 10 Kinds of Lonely (2009) and Spit Sputter and Sparkle (2016). Hawkins also formed the band Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins, releasing albums such as Rome (2012) and Garden Songs (2015).
