Studio Braun, a trio consisting of Heinz Strunk (Mathias Halfpape), Rocko Schamoni (Tobias Albrecht), and Jacques Palminger (Heiner Ebber), was founded in Hamburg, Germany, at the end of the 1990s. Initially known as Studio Bach, the group gained initial recognition for their telephone pranks, inspired by the American duo the Jerky Boys and the German satirist Heino Jaeger. In 1998, they released their album Gespräche 1 and began performing as Fraktus in the 2000s, a fictional techno group. Subsequent albums include Jeans Gags (2000) and Fear of a Gag Planet (2001).
