Takeo Moriyama is a Japanese jazz drummer born on January 27, 1945, in Tokyo. He was raised in Katsunuma and began his music career in 1967 when he joined the ensemble of the pianist Yosuke Yamashita. Moriyama performed at the Moers Festival in 1974 with the Yamashita Trio and went on several international tours with the group before departing in 1975. He formed the Takeo Moriyama Percussion Ensemble in 1975 followed by the Takeo Moriyama Quartet in 1977. His recording career included the debut studio recording Full Load (1975) and the studio recording Smile (1981), featuring the bassist Hideaki Mochizuki and the pianist Fumio Itabashi. Throughout his career, Moriyama collaborated with musicians including Akira Sakata, Aki Takase, and Akira Miyazawa. He performed in Germany in 1984 and released the live album Green River (1984).
