Stephen Drury is an American pianist, conductor, and electronic musician. Born on April 13, 1955, in Spokane, Washington, he graduated from Harvard University in 1976 and studied under Margaret Ott, Patricia Zander, and Claudio Arrau. He attended the Juilliard School where he was taught by William Masselos. He played and recorded compositions by classical and contemporary composers including Igor Stravinsky, Charles Ives, John Cage, Frederic Rzewski, Elliott Carter, and John Zorn. He served as the music director of the contemporary music ensemble Callithumpian Consort and the American Repertory Theater, and taught at the New England Conservatory of Music. He also became Professor of Piano Contemporary Classical Music at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. His album Frederic Rzewski: The People United Will Never Be Defeated (1994) received critical acclaim, and he performed with Rzewski at Carnegie Hall on May 1, 2008. His other recordings include Youthful Rapture: Chamber Music of Percy Grainger (1987), John Cage: In a Landscape (1994), and John Zorn's “Carny” on the album Angelus Novus.
