Dive is an electronic body music project from Belgium, founded in 1990 by Dirk Ivens, a former member of Klinik, whose solo venture sought complete creative control and a minimal live presence. Ivens began recording with a single rhythm machine and effects units, producing abrasive, distortion-heavy tracks, with liner notes instructing listeners to play them at maximum volume. The LP Dive (Body Records, 1990) appeared under this solo banner. In 1992, the project released the EP Final Report (Minus Habens Records) and the First Album CD. Releases in the years that followed included Concrete Jungle (Minus Habens, 1993), with tracks written and produced by label founder Ivan Iusco, while Snakedressed (Daft/COP International, 1997) brought a sound better suited to clubs, with the distortion dialled back. In 1999, True Lies reached number 20 on the U.S. CMJ RPM charts. Behind the Sun (Daft, 2004) came next, followed by Underneath (Out of Line, 2017), while live recordings such as Live Razzmatazz (Mecanica, 2017) documented Ivens's solo stage work. The latest album, Where Do We Go From Here? (Out of Line, 2020), was released with a limited wooden-box edition that included an exclusive vinyl EP of extended versions and remixes. The project is also associated with electro-industrial and noise.
