Ricky Shayne, whose real name is George Albert Tabett, was born on June 4, 1944, in Cairo. The singer is of French-Lebanese descent. He grew up in Lebanon and moved to Paris with his mother at the age of 15. There, he studied singing for two years. He then began his musical career in Italy. In 1965, he achieved his first success with “Uno dei Mods”. He came to Germany in 1966 through the film La battaglia dei Mods. His first German-language single, “Ich sprenge alle Ketten”, became a hit in 1967. Giorgio Moroder and Michael Holm wrote the song. In the years that followed, Ricky Shayne developed into a successful schlager and pop singer. In 1971, his German version of “Mamy Blue” reached number seven on the German singles charts. The English version peaked at number eight in France and also made the top ten in Belgium and Japan. In Argentina and Brazil, the song topped the charts. In addition to his music career, Ricky Shayne worked as an actor. In 1975, he moved to the U.S. In 1989, he recorded “Once I’m Gonna Stay Forever” with Dieter Bohlen for the soundtrack of the ZDF series Rivalen der Rennbahn.
