The Electric Beat Crew was a German hip-hop duo formed in Schulzendorf, German Democratic Republic in late 1987, consisting of rapper Olaf Kretschmann, known as Master K., and keyboardist Marco Birkner, known as M.A.C. Their musical journey began after Kretschmann discovered hip-hop through the film Wild Style (1983) and began producing mixtape recordings. The duo released its debut self-titled EP, Electric Beat Crew, through Amiga Records in early 1989, featuring the song “Here We Come”. This release was the first English-language hip-hop record in East Germany. The group followed with its debut studio album, The Electric Beat Crew, in 1990 before disbanding at the end of that year. Their recordings later appeared on compilation albums, including the song “Fear (Time Of Darkness)” on the compilation (b)eastside (1998) and the song “It's Time” (1999) as a free download. Additionally, the documentary film Here we come (2006) was named after their hit song and featured their track “Son of Beat Street (Live)” on its soundtrack.
