Aline Christophe, born in 1972 in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe, is a French rapper who began rapping in the early 1990s as part of the collective Le Complot des Bas Fonds. After moving to the Paris region at age five, she entered the French hip-hop scene and appeared on the 1996 compilation Les Cool Sessions 2 with “Respecte mon attitude”. In 1999 she issued her debut studio album Black Mama, which paid tribute to her brother Rudy, who was shot dead in 1996, on the hit “Et si…?”; the track sold over 250,000 singles and ranked among the year’s best-selling rap releases. She followed with Hip-Hop Therapy, featuring collaborations with Joey Starr and DJ Spank, and in 2005 released Second souffle on Barclay, on which she recounts her 2003 stroke and subsequent paralysis. In 2011 she appeared on JoeyStarr’s mixtape JoeyStarr Armagedon. She expanded her artistic scope with the 2015 autobiographical book Dans la lumière and the digital single “Angel”. Her career also includes collaborations with Dadoo, Kery James, Busta Flex, Lynnsha, Diam’s, and Princess Lover. In 2007 she married manager Sébastien Farran, and the couple separated in 2009; she has continued recording, including the 2019 album Un monde meilleur.
