Lapin kamariorkesteri, based in Rovaniemi, Finland, is the northernmost professional chamber orchestra in Finland and the European Union. The 18-member ensemble has performed under the direction of John Storgårds since autumn 1996. The group won the 2003 Valopilkku Award for its performance of Kalevi Aho's Luostosinfonia, which featured the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Recorded releases include Astor Piazzolla (2002), Jukka Linkola's Winds (2007), Kalevi Aho's Rituals (2009), In memoriam Pehr Henrik Nordgren (2011), and Alexander von Zemlinsky's Seven Songs and Chamber Symphony. The group's recording of Vagn Holmboe's Chamber Symphonies earned a Gramophone Award nomination in 2013, and their recording of Kalevi Aho's horn and theremin concertos won the ECHO Klassik in 2015. The orchestra toured Lapland and performed at international events, including the Carinthian Summer festival and The BBC Proms.
