Mangala Vallis are an Italian progressive rock band formed in 1998. The ensemble derived their name from a Martian valley described in the Jules Verne novel La Vallée de Mangala. In 2001, they established the label Tamburo a Vapore Records. They achieved professional recognition with their debut concept studio album, The Book of Dreams (2002), which was inspired by the works of Jules Verne and featured the instrumental tracks "Ouverture" (2002) and "Under the Sea" (2002). They followed this with the studio recording Lycanthrope (2005), a concept album exploring werewolf themes featuring the track "The Boy That Howls at the Moon" (2005). Their recording career includes the DVD Intergalactic Live Video Archives (2009), recorded during their 2006 European tour. In 2012, with a lineup featuring vocalist Roberto Tiranti, they issued the studio recording Microsolco (2012), a concept album focused on end-of-the-world prophecies.
