Phakamani Mdunge, professionally known as Mphara, is a South African record producer, DJ, songwriter, and musician. Born and raised in Driefontein within the KwaDukuza Municipality, his connection to music started early. By the age of 10, he was already known in his community and at school for his singing ability.
At 20, Phakamani began exploring dance music production, marking a turning point in his creative path. In 2019, he released his debut album, African Women. Although the project was later removed in 2020 as it no longer reflected his artistic direction, it played a key role in shaping his sound and discipline as a producer.
In 2021, Mphara re-emerged with a focused and mature approach, releasing Heal The World, High Frequency, and Last Dance. These projects highlighted his growth and reinforced his belief in music as a source of healing, emotion, and human connection.
The journey continued in 2022 with the release of the Away album, featuring tracks such as “Remember Those You Lost” and “Your Time Is Now.” The album showcased his ability to blend emotional storytelling with dance-driven energy, creating music that speaks to both the heart and the dancefloor.
Mphara’s work goes beyond entertainment. His music often reflects themes of healing, hope, and mental well-being, driven by a desire to make a positive impact through sound. With every release, Phakamani Mdunge continues to evolve, establishing Mphara as a rising and meaningful voice in South African electronic music.
