Abyssos was a Swedish melodic black metal ensemble formed in 1995 in Sundsvall. The group consisted of Christian Rehn, Daniel Meidal, Andreas Söderlund, and the vocalist Sedusa. The members had previously performed in death and black metal groups including Hekate, Sombre, and Insalubrious. The ensemble referred to its musical style as "witching metal" and cited influences such as Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The group released its first demo, Wherever the Witches Might Fly, in 1996. Its debut studio recording, Together We Summon the Dark, appeared in October 1997 through Cacophonous Records and was recorded at Academy Studios in Yorkshire. The ensemble released its second album, Fhinsthanian Nightbreed, in December 1999. Although the group announced a third recording titled Delomelanicon between 2001 and 2003, the work remained unfinished without a record label. The ensemble became inactive following the release of its second album.
