Animal Liberation Orchestra, also known as ALO, is an American rock band formed in 1989 in Saratoga, California, by childhood friends Zach Gill, Steve Adams, and Dan "Lebo" Lebowitz. Initially called Django, the group recorded the debut album Contact before moving to Santa Barbara for college. Following several lineup and name changes, the band evolved into the Animal Liberation Orchestra & The Free Range Horns by 1998 and released the album ALO vs. LAG. In 2006, the quartet signed with Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records, which re-released the album Fly Between Falls. The band gained significant traction with the single “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down”, with Johnson providing additional guitar and vocals. Their subsequent studio albums include Roses & Clover (2007), Man of the World (2010), Sounds Like This (2012), Tangle of Time (2015), Silver Saturdays (2023), and Frames (2025).
