Sachiko M is a Japanese electronic musician and sound artist who was born as Sachiko Matsubara in 1973. She achieved early professional recognition in 1994 as a member of the ensemble Ground Zero and is famous for her minimalist use of sine waves and for receiving the Golden Nica prize at Ars Electronica (2003). Following the dissolution of Ground Zero in 1998, Matsubara focused on improvised electronic music utilizing the test tones of samplers. Her discography includes the debut solo studio recording Sine Wave Solo (1999) and collaborative recordings such as Filament 1 (1998) and Good Morning Good Night (2004). She co-founded the duo Cosmos with Ami Yoshida, with whom she shared the 2003 Golden Nica for digital music. Matsubara has also composed for television, co-authoring tracks for the series Amachan (2013), including the award-winning song “Shiosai no Memory”. Since 2004, she has also been active in creating sound installations and photographic works.
