Kristian Valen was born on 13 October 1974 in Stavanger, Norway, and began his career as a comedian and radio host before turning to music. He released his debut single "Still Here" in 2004, which reached Number One on NRK P1 and earned a gold certification within five days; the song was later used as the theme for the German series Leben für die Liebe. In 2006 he launched his first solo album, Listen When Alone, produced by Arvid Solvang, which achieved platinum status in Norway and was distributed across Europe and Asia. The follow‑up single "Where Is Jesus" was issued on 21 May 2007. Valen continued to perform internationally, including a 2010 appearance at the Forever Michael: A Celebration of an Icon event in Los Angeles, where he performed "Still Here" and a montage of musical impressions. In 2017 he entered the Melodi Grand Prix with the entry "You & I". Throughout his career he founded Deepwater Records, signed a worldwide publishing deal with Air Chrysalis Scandinavia, and collaborated with artists such as Lita Ford and Jean Beavour. Valen’s television work, notably The Valen Channel, contributed to his reputation as a multi‑talented entertainer, though his public profile was later affected by legal incidents in 2007 and 2016. Despite these challenges, his discography and live performances remain significant entries in Norwegian pop and comedy history.
