Unholy, a Finnish black doom band, was formed in 1988 in Imatra under the name Holy Hell by guitarist Jarkko Toivonen and singer/bassist Pasi Äijö. The band released their first demo, Kill Jesus, before renaming themselves to Unholy and releasing subsequent demos, including  The Procession of Black Doom (1990) and Trip to Depressive Autumn (1992). Their debut album, From the Shadows, was released in 1993 under Lethal Records. After signing with Avantgarde Music, they released The Second Ring of Power (1994). The band disbanded in December 1994 and reformed in 1996. They released the albums Rapture in 1998 and Gracefallen in 1999. The band disbanded again in 2002 but reunited briefly for a series of concerts in 2012, ultimately disbanding after their last performance at the Dark Bombastic Evening Festival.
