onelifecrew was formed in Osaka Prefecture in 2001 under the name ONE LIFE CREW, led by vocalist Yu-suke Matsumura, who also wrote all of the band's lyrics and compositions. The group began on the independent scene, and a lineup change in March 2008 led to a five-member setup. In 2009, Matsumura supplied the song "時間を止めて…" to the singer Lil'B, and it debuted at Number 1 on the weekly 着うた ranking. The following year, the original song "追憶メリーゴーランド" was chosen as the ending theme for the TV Tokyo anime FAIRY TAIL and released as onelifecrew's major-label debut single through Pony Canyon. In 2014 the band issued the album 僕はマボロシの中 and the single "ブルージェリーフィッシュ", while also working under the name 2ndlifecrew, alongside mimi, to supply songs to Sexy Zone and Misumari. Departures in 2015 and the addition of new members in 2017 reshaped the lineup, and by 2019 the band had effectively gone on hiatus, with Matsumura continuing to write music in Tokyo.
