DJ SS is a British drum and bass disc jockey and producer born as Leroy Small on 27 August 1970 in Leicester. He achieved professional recognition for a musical career that began as a hip hop and rare groove disc jockey under the stage name Scratchen Stein. Small achieved professional recognition for promoting the club nights Total Kaos in Leicester with his partner Eidris and staging one of the first large indoor parties at Donington Park (1991). He achieved professional recognition for co-founding the label Formation Records. The label achieved professional recognition for releasing recordings by the musicians John B, Tango, and Twisted Individual. Small's discography included The Psycho EP (1991), Colour Series, Rhythm for Reasons, and Breakbeat Pressure. He achieved professional recognition for the track "The Lighter" (1995) which featured a sample from the theme of the film Love Story. Small achieved professional recognition for performing on the radio program D&B M1X on the station BBC 1Xtra.
