Charlie Mars is an American folk-rock and acoustic singer-songwriter from Mississippi, born in Laurel, Mississippi, in 1974. Raised in Oxford and Jackson, Mississippi, he was inspired to become a musician at age 15 or 16 after hearing the albums Thriller and Slippery When Wet. He began performing in high school and later attended Southern Methodist University. Mars started playing for Jack Ingram in 1992 under the name the Charlie Mars Band. His debut studio album, Broken Arrow, was released in 1995, followed by Born & Razed (1997), End of Romance (1999), and his self-titled album, Charlie Mars (2004). His subsequent releases include EP (2009), Like a Bird, Like a Plane (2009), Blackberry Light (2012), The Money (2014), Beach Town (2018), and Times Have Changed (2023). He performed at Austin City Limits and South by Southwest, and was featured in Esquire Magazine's Songwriting Challenge.
