Born in Great Neck, New York on November 4, 1956, Jordan Rudess is a keyboardist, composer, software developer, and music educator whose career bridges classical training, progressive rock, and cutting-edge music technology. While he is best known as a member of progressive metal band Dream Theater since 1999, he was a child prodigy and studied piano at Juilliard before shifting his focus to synthesizers and progressive music. He built his reputation in the late 1980s and early 1990s through solo work and collaborations. Jordan Rudess first came to prominence with his 1993 album Listen. After working with groups like The Dixie Dregs, he co-founded the progressive metal band Liquid Tension Experiment with drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), bassist Tony Levin (King Crimson), and guitarist John Petrucci (Dream Theater) in 1998.
