David Shea is an American composer and disc jockey born on 8 December 1965 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He studied composition at the Indiana Conservatory from 1982 to 1984 and later at the Oberlin Conservatory. After moving to New York City, he performed as a disc jockey and released his debut studio album, Shock Corridor (1992), through the label Avant. Between 1993 and 1994, he resided in Belgium and released the albums Prisoner (1993), I (1994), and Hsi-Yu Chi (1995). Shea’s work often incorporates live instrumentation and samplers, as demonstrated in the recordings Classical Works #1 (1999) and Classical Works #2 (2002). He relocated to Melbourne, Australia, in 2002 and established the label Metta Editions. His subsequent recordings include the studio albums Rituals (2014) and Piano I (2016). He issued the recording The Thousand Buddha Caves (2021), which was inspired by his travels and Buddhist practice.
