Wenge Musica is a Congolese soukous band from Kinshasa established in 1981. The ensemble was founded by school friends including bassist Didier Masela and singer Werrason under the name Celio Stars before renaming themselves in 1981, and was later led by singer JB Mpiana from 1986 until their split in December 1997. Their debut studio recording Bouger!! Bouger!! Makinzu!!! (1988) was released on the label Bisel and featured the hit track “Mulolo” composed by Mpiana. The group subsequently released the studio recordings Kin É Bougé (1991), Kala-Yi-Boeing (1993), the double recording Les Anges Adorables (1994), and Pentagone (1996). Wenge Musica reached professional recognition for European tours with performances in Paris and Brussels, and for popularizing ndombolo dance music. Internal divisions following the release of Mpiana's solo album Feux de l'amour (1997) culminated in a public split in December 1997, giving rise to the spin-off groups Wenge BCBG and Wenge Musica Maison Mère. In February 2022, the original members reunited and subsequently performed historic reunion concerts in Kinshasa.
