Sheffield’s FloodHounds tap into the melody of indie, the grit of blues and the fury of punk. They’ve earned a reputation for delivering tight and exciting live shows bursting with stomping, fuzzed-up guitar, savage drums and punchy bass. Lyrically catchy, the Indie Rock trio’s powerful punk-infused tunes, stay with you long after the gig.
A new line up and new music have landed FloodHounds a string of excellent shows recently as new bass player Anna Melidone joined Jack Flynn (Guitar/Vocals) and Lauren Greaves (Drums). Her first gigs were a baptism of fire, from a rammed Tramlines Fringe set; to curating FloodHounds’ own headline show at Sheffield’s Sidney & Matildas for Sensoria Festival’s opening night, playing Wentworth Festival along the way, and returning to Nottingham’s sold out Bodega to support Kid Kapichi.
A well-established Sheffield band, FloodHounds are Tramline’s regulars having played both official and fringe Tramlines’ stages as well as other major festivals like Isle Of Wight, Liverpool Sound City and Brighton Alt Escape. Alongside their own sold-out headline shows, the trio have relished playing across the UK, including packed support slots for the likes of The Blinders; Calva Louise, King Nun, Childcare, BlackWaters, Strange Bones and PINS, and sharing festival stages with Demob Happy, Saint Agnes, False Heads & The Mysterines. They’ve even ventured twice to play Paris gigs.
Pre-lockdown highlights include being playlisted on BT TV and receiving Sensoria’s Songwriting award from Sheffield’s own Richard Hawley. During live music closures, FloodHounds were busy putting out live streams and sessions for platforms such as, Jägermeister, God Is In The TV Zine and Wentworth Festival. Jack self-produced a 10-track acoustic album and an animated video for ‘Out Of Time’. They made Record Store Day’s national video competition’s final shortlist, and their technically ambitious ‘Take It Too Far' video, placed 2nd in the London Music Video Festival category.
FloodHounds have just released a new single, “Panic Stations” with more music to be released by mid-summer. Touching on themes of sticking together instead of giving in to alienation and uncertainty, ‘Panic Stations’ pairs FloodHounds’ potent lyricism with their unruly live energy and their trademark melodic, swaggering groove.
Previous singles 'Out Of Time' and ‘Something Primeval’ scored numerous Track of The Week spots and premiered as BBC Introducing Sheffield’s Record of The Week, notching up over 25 independent blog reviews. “As a band that is loved for their raucous live energy, FloodHounds’ fiery brand of blues-inspired punk shines in ‘Something Primeval’.
