The Sound (더 사운드) is a South Korean alternative and punk rock band formed on February 24, 2017. The band emerged from a spontaneous idea when 줄리엔 얼, then a high school senior, invited his friend 홍재형 to form a group for a one-off club performance. Along with classmates 최예온 and junior 심상훈, they debuted under the name The Sound. Originally intended as a temporary project, the chemistry on stage convinced them to continue as a band. In February 2018, they released their self-produced indie debut album Static Colors, marking their official entry into the Korean indie scene. After drummer 심상훈 left in 2019, the band welcomed 주요한, a talented junior from their high school. The group’s momentum built further with their successful THE SOUND JAPAN TOUR 2019. In 2020, they signed with LOVE CHIPS INTERNATIONAL Inc., expanding their reach. Despite a brief hiatus during 주요한’s military service, The Sound made a powerful comeback in 2023 with the album Who’s Listening?, appearing at major festivals like Pentaport Rock Festival and embarking on national and international tours. In April 2025, they released their second full-length album, BEDROOM BUZZ, continuing to shape Korea’s modern rock landscape.
