Matthieu Bordenave was born in 1983 in Tarbes, France, and is a jazz musician, saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer. He began his musical journey with classical saxophone training under Christian Charnay at the Conservatory of Annecy before moving to Paris at age 17 to study jazz saxophone with André Villéger. Bordenave continued his education at the National Conservatory (CNSM) in Paris.
Bordenave's career took off with the release of his debut album Some Other Time in 2011, featuring collaborations with Peter O’Mara and Henning Sieverts. In 2014, he signed with Enja Records for his bassless trio project Le Café Bleu International, which has since released two albums. His 2020 album with Patrice Moret and Florian Weber, La Traversée, inspired by the poetry of René Char, was released under ECM Records. Bordenave has performed on prestigious European stages and toured internationally, collaborating with artists like Lee Konitz and Geoff Goodman.
